Disney Creating a new Channel for Boys!
Hannah Montana, High School Musical, the Jonas Brothers...what do all these things have in common? They are all geared towards girls and the Disney channel is doing something about it. They are coming out with a new station called Disney XD that will be geared towards boys ages 6-14. I find it interesting that the Disney channel is doing this but it does make sense. The channel has always been more of a girl station in my opinion so this will be a nice balance for them. Also, this is a great way to make more money!! They can create more movies that will bank millions of dollars in clothing, toys, CDs, you name it. The Disney channel is known for its movies so that will be interesting to see what kinds of movies they make on the XD channel. Also they will have a whole new group of "tween" actors and actresses that will be making millions I'm sure. They are joining forces with ESPN to bring sports to the boys station as well as animation, action and drama. They will also have music videos and gaming is included in all of this too! I think they are on the right track, they say they will have some shows that are more for the older group and other for the younger kids but they will all be appropriate. It will be interesting to see what they have in store and if it works out.

My eight year old brother was literally counting down the days to the premeir of Disney XD. He was singing all the little jingles they came up with to promote it and to a certain degree it was starting to get on my nerves!

And they finally did, and I agree with you about it aiming towards boys. It was a good idea becuase sometimes my brother would be watching things like Hannah Montana and I knew he really didn't like it, it was just the only decent thing on for his age group. With Disney XD he is able to enjoy those action and sportty things he likes. Of course, not all the time, too much TV is never good :)
But when he does decide to watch TV, it's good to know he has something to enjoy and is appropriate
They should probably bring another channel called Classic Disney, which will just air a continues stream of Disney Channel Original Movies like Brink and Johnny Tsunami.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that boys are getting their own channel in a sense, because whenever I flip through the channe;s for shows when Im with my friends little brother theres only a handful of non cartoon shows directed at boys.
Not only should brink and johnny tsunami make their triumphant returns on disney XD but The Famous Jett Jackson should join them. Not only was the show action backed, but it also showed a great behind the scenes view at the production of a teen series.
ReplyDeleteI used to love disney channel original movies, when brink came out I am not ashamed to say me and my friends broke out the old roller blades again! Thats funny that they need to make a whole other station directed towards boys, but i guess it does make sense, there are shows directed at girls, and shows directed at boys so it makes sense for their to be a distinguishable station between the two.
